Biography of Anne Elisabeth

Anne Elisabeth was the last child born in Rotterdam to Etienne Cabos and Maria Justine Siercken.

Birth September 12, 1785 Rotterdam
Baptism September 25, 1785 Walloon Church, Rotterdam
Marriage August 16, 1807 Luisenkirche, Charlottenburg
Death December 21, 1866 Groß Jehser

Chronological Context

The marriage took place one year before her father's death:

  • August 16, 1807: Elisabeth marries August Friedrich Ferdinand Pohle
  • September 14, 1808: Etienne Cabos dies in Charlottenburg
  • September 10, 1810: Maria Justine Siercken dies in Charlottenburg

Elisabeth was 21 years old at the time of the marriage. Her husband August Friedrich Ferdinand Pohle was a city surgeon - a respected profession, which shows that Elisabeth made a good match despite her family's financial difficulties.

The Luisenkirche in Charlottenburg

The wedding took place at the Luisenkirche in Charlottenburg - the same church where three years later the death certificate of Elisabeth's mother Maria Justine was issued. The Luisenkirche, named after the beloved Queen Louise of Prussia, was the main church of the then still independent town of Charlottenburg.

Groß Jehser

Anne Elisabeth died on December 21, 1866 in Groß Jehser, a small town in Brandenburg (today part of the municipality of Calau in the district of Oberspreewald-Lausitz). She was buried on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1866.

At 81 years old, she reached a very advanced age for that time and outlived all her known siblings.

Significance for Family History

Anne Elisabeth is the only child of Etienne Cabos for whom we have documented the complete life course from birth to death:

  • Birth: Rotterdam 1785 (baptism certificate available)
  • Marriage: Charlottenburg 1807 (marriage certificate available)
  • Death: Groß Jehser 1866 (death certificate available)

She is thus an important link between Etienne's generation and the later descendants of the Cabos/Pohle family.
